Folic acid supplements during pregnancy (kind of relates to my other question)?

Friday, October 31st, 2008
PennyLane asked:

I read about folic acid defficiency being a possible effect of tanning a while back, actually. So when I found out I was pregnant I went out to get prenatal vitamins (which have folic acid in them) and while I was there, I checked out folic acid supplements as well. My thinking was that if I take extra folic acid, maybe it would still be okay to tan…

Anyway, there were two varieties of folic acid supplements at Walmart. One was for heart health and I can’t remember what the other one was for. One of them said to consult your doctor if you’re pregnant or nursing. I thought folic acid is good for you when TTC, during pregnancy, and while nursing? Does it have that warning because there is other stuff in there that might be bad? I’m thinking that’s the case.

Is there a straight folic acid supplement out there? I know Walmart has a minimal selection of stuff like that. Maybe GNC has a better selection with what I’m looking for.

Any advice or input?
Oops, forgot to add the disclaimer that I’m not looking for a lecture on tanning. I’ve been doing it for years and I’ll most likely be doing it for years to come.

I’ve had two healthy babies (no, I didn’t tan during either pregnancy). I’m just looking for facts. Opinions mean nothing to me (unless they are coming from a medical professional who can back up what they’re saying).

Thanks!
Yep, I’m gonna ask my OB/GYN about this at my first prenatal visit. I have to call and get my blood test done, then I’ll have that appointment. Just thought I’d pop over here and ask in the meantime. I know there is at least one RN who answers questions here.

One week of extreme school and stress and studies. What would you do to prepare?

So I’ll be having a huge, crazy, stressful week in which my entire degree rests upon.

What would you do:
1. In preparation
2. During the week

I’m trying different natural/alternative health methods to improve and maintain my health so I have maximum effectiveness during this week.

Any herbs, foods, supplements, etc., etc., that might help me better survive?

Any other non-health tips would be helpful, too.

What protein supplements are available for someone who is sensitive to esophogus agitation?

bluewavesguy44 asked:

I used to not have this problem, but when I was actively working out and supplementing with Whey, Casein, and Albumum protein powders, I noticed that I had a problem sometimes with being able to swallow good and actually a couple of times choking and spitting the stuff back up in a thick mucus-like spit. Associated symptoms were that of heartburn but quite different. Not too long there after I read a container of one of those powedered proteins when I was browsing in GNC that stated something to the effect of ‘protein powders agitating the esophogus’ in some consumers which in some cases can cause the esophugus to swell and narrow leading to choking. That’s my case, but not every time, just certain times. What other supplements could I take instead? Caplets?

What effects would testosterone supplements have on a 19 year old’s appearance?

Monday, October 27th, 2008
Matthias R asked:

I am 19, still going through puberty (as far as i can tell…) and I have a rather weak chin/jaw and large nose. I am also slender built and was wondering if taking testosterone supplements now while my body is still producing some would help make my facial features more masculine and perhaps add some muscle as well.

I have been working the night audit shift for about six months now and have gained weight, despite NO change in diet. I do NOT get a full 8 hours sleep each day, usually sleeping three to four hours a day. What are some natural supplements I can take to help bring that back under control?

Is this a good workout to build arm and stomach muscle?

Nick D asked:

Hey everyone, I’m starting to get into fitness and I was wondering what yall thought of my daily routine:

1) I wake up, take 5 equate fiber therapy tablets (as recommended) and take 1 equate men’s health one daily dietary supplement

2) I spend the day drinking lots of water and take another five fiber tablets

3) Come night I take 2 10 pound weights and do 20 simutaneously up and down lifts in a fast pace motion, then I twist around and do 20 up down lifts simutaneously. Then I put both weights infront of me like I am holding a plattar of food and do 20 ups and downs. Then I go back to do 20 up and down lifts regularly. I then lay on the ground and do 50 normal crunches with a 10 pound weight on my chest. Then I do 50 crunches focusing on one direction, then 50 going the other direction, then I do 50 with a 10 pound weight on my chest again normally

4) After that, I drink about 3 scoops (around 60g protein) of whey protein

Is this a good routine to build stomach and arm muscle?

What supplements can I take to counteract the effects of alcohol?

AL IS ON VACATION AND HAS NO PIC asked:

by that I don’t mean hangovers. I’m taking about nutrient deficiencies, cirrhosis of the liver, brain damage, sexual problems, heart disease, cancer, etc. Will supplements help me reduce my odds of getting those things? because I’m not going to give up my 4 or 5 drinks a day. I’m not an alcoholic but I like to drink.
